2008 Ice Bowl

Some of the biggest news coming out of Ice Bowl 2008 was the record  amount of $257,642 that disc golfers raised pushed the histori al grand total of all IceBowl cash donations since 1996 over $1,000,000—$1,111,169 to be exact. Other records set in 2008 included 52,402 participants playing in 227 events and collecting 52,402 pounds of food.

2007 Ice Bowl

There might be a few readers who don’t know that in January and February every year, communities across North America, and a few in Europe, hold winter disc golf events under the banner of Ice Bowl. Ice Bowls are about having fun; raising money, most often, for local charities (with an emphasis on feeding the hungry); and creating positive awareness for disc golf. The rules are simple for Ice Bowls in that wimps and whiners are not allowed and that (within reason) an Ice Bowl event cannot be postponed or canceled because of the weather.

2006 Ice Bowl

There is a good chance that most disc golfers have not only heard about the Ice Bowl, but probably have played in several during the past 20 years. In case you just dropped in, Ice Bowl events are held in January and February wherever disc golf is played, regardless of the weather. The emphasis of these events, of which 170 have reported in time to be included in this article, is to play disc golf, have fun, and raise money for a charity, usually a local one. Working for local charity is emphasized as a way to positively integrate disc golf clubs and associations .....

IceBowl 2005’s goal for charity was to raise $100,000, which was $13,000 more than last year’s record effort. The 183 tournaments, which were held in 45 states, six Canadian provinces, and three countries in Europe not only drew a record 7,028 players, but produced an astounding and record smashing $128,036—over 47 percent more than last year. The Saint Cloud Disc Golf Club and the Charlotte Disc Golf Club anchored this year’s fundraising (see sidebars); both became the first Ice Bowls ever to surpass $10K and accounted for nearly 20 percent of the entire total. Saint Cloud, besides raising the most money ever for an Ice Bowl, also held the coldest IceBowl of the year, when the temperature averaged -5°. In addition to these two stellar events, there was a record number (30) of other events that donated $1,000 or more, including first time Ice Bowls in Tallahassee......
